The article is devoted to the study of the symbolism of the ancestral deity of the Buryat Bulagat tribe, known in traditional mythology as Bukha-Noyon. The paper also analyzes the semantics of his wife's name, Budan-Khatan. It is determined that in the past these revered deities were widespread in the Buryat cultural tradition. In addition to the Bulagats, their cult was adopted by other Buryat tribes, such as the Khori and the Ekhirites. The high popularity of the Bulagat tribal ancestors is due to their significant influence on the formation of the Buryat ethnic group, as well as a rich range of religious and mythological images of deities and their functions. It is established that this variety of interpretations is due to the traditional worldview of the Bulagats, which was formed on the basis of various forms of archaic beliefs and shamanism, reflecting the economic, cultural and socio-economic aspects of their lives. At the same time, among the presented number of ancestral deities, the image of Bukha-Noyon stands out, which has received a deeper elaboration in the tradition. This circumstance demonstrates the dominant status of the deity in the religious and mythological paradigm. Accordingly, in the context of the Bulagat tribal tradition, the deity was endowed with the quality of a central demiurge. This is also the reason for the cult of Bukha-Noyon's wife, whose image within the framework of folklore heritage was distinguished by a limited range of interpretations compared to the more multifaceted characteristics of Bukha-Noyon. Nevertheless, both divine ancestors, acting as creators of the world of gods and humans, are endowed with positive symbols within the framework of traditional culture. They represent good and bright forces closely associated with the Sayan Mountains, which tend to be obscured by fog and clouds for natural reasons. It is proved that the image of the wife of the Bulagats progenitor is associated with atmospheric phenomena and is reflected in her naming.
